The Worldwide Airport Slot System

Since the 1970’s IATA has been at the forefront of ensuring a fair, neutral and transparent allocation of airport slots at the worlds’ most congested airports through the application of the Worldwide Slot Guidelines (WSG).  

There are over 170 airports formally designated as Level 3 (most congested, requiring slots), and this number is expected to grow significantly due to a lack of investment in airport infrastructure to cope with increasing demand.
